I want to thank you most of all

I did not update during my break from school. I spent said break not getting enough sleep and watching movies with Justin. I also went to a wedding in the Soo. All fine and well. Justin and I watched the Dawn of the Dead Director's Cut(2004) and Kung Fu Hustle. DOTD was just as great as I remembered it to be, and the Director's Cut is even better. It's a crowd pleaser full of great gore and laughs. And a zombie baby.

We all get one, but I've already used mine after I said I loved My Chemical Romance's album. Well, I'm calling for another one. I love Fall Out Boy's album, and I don't care what you think. It's catchy, it rocks, and the lyrics are hilarious. As a counterpoint, Rachel listened to it, agreed on the the rocking but said she was "so over" the vocalist. Be that as it may, at least they aren't pussies like Jimmy Eat World.

I purchased three albums during my week off. Yes, they went on credit because I don't have any real money. The Juan Maclean- Less Than Human is a DFA production, and it shows through and through. It's lots of sweet drumming along with spacious synth. I kinda like it, but don't love it. I certainly admire it. Common- Be is fantastic. Common is always called underrated, but that has to change with this album. All kill no filler, and Kanye West on production. Be is a great example of equal time spent on both rhymes and production, to equal a superior product. Les Rhythmes Digitales- Darkdancer is from 1999, and sounds like it was made in 1985. Very retro, and at times too Eighties to tolerate. But, it has the song "Sometimes", which I would place on my list of one of the best songs ever(Somewhere between New Radicals and Jamiroquai).
Be aware, the new Kanye West album comes out on August 30th. "Golddiggers" sounds fucking sweet and Jon Brion helped with production. Pull on your pants and wait by the door!

I noticed that everyone is going list fucking crazy. And I love lists. So let's go!

I took this survey from Nicole who got it from Tony. Fucker sure is long.

what are your 10 most favorite artist/bands/acts?
This is a tricky list. About 5 months ago, Weezer might have been on it. See what a shitty album will do. Now you won't be on my livejournal survey Weezer! See what your mediocre album has wrought!

1. Sloan. Simply the best band to ever be called a band. By people.
2. Queens of the Stone Age
3. Chemical Brothers
4. Stone Temple Pilots
5. The Strokes
6. TOOL
7. Deftones
8. Death From Above 1979
9. Beastie Boys
10.Jay-Z

I like a ton of other bands, but I think this is a fair list.

what band/act has had the greatest influence on current music?
Well, this question is kinda vague. Which current music? Duran Duran had a big influence on The Killers and Franz Ferdinand, but so did Gang of Four and Joy Division. All music begets other music. It all started with the caveman and his Zildjan cymbal.

who is your favorite singer?
That guy who sang that fucking song. Right now, a tie between Sebastion Grainger of DFA79 and Ben Folds.

who is your favorite drummer?
A tie between Sebastien Grainger and Dave Grohl.

who is your piano or keyboard player?
My piano player? Rachel I guess. My favorite piano player? Why, Ben Folds of course.

who is your favorite bassist?
Jesse F. Keeler of DFA79.

who is your favorite songwriter?
Well, I guess all the guys in Sloan.

who is your favorite guitar player?
Josh Homme.

who is your favorite lyricist?
I'll stick with Josh. Or Martin Gore.

who is your favorite m.c.?
Hov, duh.

who is your favorite producer?
This is an interesting question, as producer could be said to do everything or nothing at the exact same time. Brendan O'Brien produced some of my favorite albums of the 90's. However, Kanye West is the fucking man.

who is your favorite "front man"?
He's charmed me twice, Jesse "The Devil" Hughes from Eagles of the Death Metal.

who is your favorite d.j.?
Qualls. Sorry.

who is your favorite "rock and roll casualty"?
Kurt Cobain obviously.

who are your favorite horn players?

sax- Dunno.

trumpet- Dunno.

other- Dunno.

what band that you've never seen live do you want to see most?
Well, Queens of the Stone Age, but the wait is almost over!

what band have you seen the most?
Sloan, 4 times. Bitches.

what was the best live performance you have seen?
Tough. The first time I saw DFA1979 was kinda transcendent, as was Sloan. That kinda thing is tough to gauge. I know when I saw Tom Petty live, he ruled, plain and simple, and I don't even like him that much. Shit, Rage Against The Machine was fucking awesome too. Anyway, tough question.

what was the worst performance you have ever seen?
The Mars Volta show, both for pure wankery and wasted money.

what was the best bill youv'e ever seen? (list all bands that appeared that night) The Intonation Festival (Day 1) had a pretty good bill, but I refuse to list who was there.

what was the longest show by one act you have ever seen? (the longest anyone has ever played for you) The Mars Volta show seemed to go on forever.

what is your favorite album? name 2 or 3 for each decade...
This is fucking tough. I'm still working on my list for the last five years, and this question doesn't help me.

2000's -
DFA 1979- You're A Woman, I'm A Machine
Arcade Fire- Funeral
N.E.R.D.- In Search Of...
90's -
Soundgarden- Superunknown
TOOL- Aenima
Nirvana- Nevermind
80's-
Anything by The Pixies or The Smiths
70's-
Zeppelin I guess. Or Kraftwerk(kidding).
60's-
Beatles.
50's-
Shyeah.
pre-1950-
Shyeah right.

what do you believe to be the best album of all time?
The truth is the best album of all time is Sloan- Navy Blues.

what album is your favorite when you are feelin mellow?
I don't really assign albums to moods. Usually, they put me in a mood. So, a mellow album I have would be Groove Armada- Vertigo.

sad?
Beck- Sea Change. Or anything by The Smiths or Depeche Mode.

happy?
Sloan.

sexy? :0)
Eagles of Death Metal- Peace Love Death Metal, or DFA1979

obnoxious?
Limp Bizkit, but I say that with affection.

what is your favorite music dvd?
Any of the Director's series DVD's.

Rockin'.

what would you say is your favorite record label?
They're all owned by one company anyway, but Vice is the motherfucking ass kicker.

what would you say is your favorite musical instrument?
The oboe is a badass bitch.

what would you think is the hardest instrument to play, as far as the time it takes to become somewhat knowledgeable and skilled?
The one with the just the one string that you kinda wiggle and it makes a weird "heeurgle" sound. Radiohead played on SNL.

do you play a musical instrument?
Not anymore, but a friend of mine plays the knees.

what act is the future rolling stones, playing shows until they are held up by strings and controlled by puppeteers?
Well, U2, right?

Um, well, bad grammer aside, I like electronic music just fine.

Over 500 cd's I'm sure.
what is your favorite form of media? (cd's, dvd's, cassesttes, vinyl, 8-tracks)
CD.

have any sweet imports?
I have Japan versions of Garbage Beautifulgarbage and Clinic Walking With Thee.

what do you belive to be the most avant garde album in your collection?
Aphex Twin Select Ambient Works Volume 2. It's two discs, no song titles, no songs really, just sounds. I've listened to it once, but will never part with it.

whats your opinion on the beatles?
Pretty fucking good.

what album/artist do you want me to check out?
Death From Above 1979.

name an artist i introduced to you that you love?
You? Well, I don't think you have.

what is your favorite website to check out music or research it?
A little place like home. It's called Pitchforkmedia.com.
